2020 Winter Guard Season

Welcome to 2020 Winter Color Guard! Welcome to our new members! It’s going to be a great year!

What is Winter Guard?

Winter Guard performs a show to pre-recorded music on a basketball court-size floor. We perform with flags, rifles, and sabers just as we did on the field during marching season.

Competition Dates

  • Saturday, February 29th: Monrovia HS
  • Saturday, March 7th: Rancho Cucamonga HS
  • Friday, March 20th: Golden Valley HS
  • Saturday, March 21st: Rancho Cucamonga HS
  • Friday, March 27th: Chino Hills HS
  • Saturday/Sunday, April 18th & 19th: Championships, location TBD

Rehearsals

We will have rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Costs

This year, costs for Winter Guard will be $600 per student. This includes instruction, competition fees, transportation and costume.

Additional costs may include shoes, gloves, undergarments and make-up.

Funds may be earned through the various fundraisers offered by the program and funds in student accounts may be used towards the costs of the program.

Volunteers Needed

We will need volunteers for every competition to ride the bus and provide snacks for the students. Please consider helping, it’s a great experience!

9-12 Orchestra to California Adventure

  • 7:15am: Arrive in Concert Attire, Load truck (instruments and clothes for the day)

  • 9am: Arrive Disney/Security
  • 11:30am: Performance at California Adventure stage
  • 12:30pm: Dismissed back to the park (CA Adv. or Disneyland)
  • 7pm: Meet at the Compass in the Esplande (the space between the entrances of the parks)
  • 7:30pm: Depart Disney
  • 8:30pm: Arrive at LCHS, unload truck, dismissed
  • Students need to bring everything for a concert performance:
    • Concert Wear
    • Black socks
    • Dress shoes
    • Instrument

9-12 Marching Spartans to Disneyland

  • 7:15am: Load truck
  • 8am: Depart LCHS
  • 9am: Arrive Disney
  • 2:55pm: Meet at the Compass in the Esplanade (the space between the entrances of the two parks)
  • 4:50pm: Parade begins
  • 6:30pm: Dismissed back into the park
  • 9pm: Meet at the Compass in the Esplanade (the space between the entrances of the two parks)
  • 10pm: Depart Disney (after watching fireworks from the parking lot)
  • 11pm: Arrive LCHS, unload truck
  • Students need to bring everything for a marching performance:
    • marching shoes
    • long black socks
    • instruments
    • shako
    • gloves

NY Trip – Payment Deadline

Encore Tours, the company arranging the New York trip, has indicated that some participants have only paid the deposit of $200. Please go to the website and make a payment of $1000 prior to December 22nd to be sure your student has an airline seat.

After December 22nd, all participants that have not paid a total of $1200 will be dropped from the trip.

If you are planning on using funds from your student’s account, please email Mr. Stone and let him know so he can communicate that to the tour company. (And be sure to let Mr. Bohannon know that you are planning on using the student account. The deadline for that is December 19th.)

NY Trip – Student Funds – December 19th Deadline

If you are planning to use any of your student funds for the NYC trip you MUST:

  1. Email Marshall Bohannon by December 19th!
  2. Please put Attn: STUDENT ACCOUNT – NYC in the subject line!

The MPA has to mail the check with all students funds to ENCORE TOURS before the end of the year.

We will not be able to apply any student funds to the NYC Trip after December 19th. Thank you for your cooperation!

MPA parent and realtor, Monika Song, invites you to a Christmas Pot Luck Party to fundraise for the LCHS Instrumental Music Program!

  • Dress: holiday attire – ladies can wear something danceable
  • Things to Bring: your favorite dishes to share; two chairs if you have them
  • Program:
    • LCHS Orchestra performance at 6pm

    • dance show: salsa class, 7-8 folk dance, tango class
    • All night Karaoke and cards!
    • There will also be a telescope observatory with a rotating dome and large 10″ telescope to check out, too!

Montrose Christmas Parade – 9-12 Marching Spartans & 7/8 Color Guard

  • 5:15pm: Call time for 9-12 Marching Spartans and 7/8 Color Guard
  • Students should be dropped off at the corner of Honolulu and La Crescenta Ave. for parade staging.
  • Full uniform – NO SHAKO – festive holiday hats are encouraged.
  • Students should take instruments and uniforms after school on Friday.
  • Instrument cases and/or flag bags should be left in the car – we will not return to the staging area.
  • Dismissal is at the end of the parade which is at the corner of Honolulu and Ocean View.
